Just like with Women's Day and Men's Day, there is a dedicated day to celebrate children, and it comes with its own fascinating history and variety of dates. Unlike the single dates for Women's and Men's Day, Children's Day is celebrated on many different dates around the world. World Children's Day (Nov 20): This is the official United Nations day. It was established with a specific goal: to encourage countries to think about and take action for the welfare of all children. The core idea is always to make children feel loved, valued, and heard. Chen Su Lan Methodist Children’s Home was established in 1968 by the Wesley Methodist Church and the Chen Su Lan Trust.
Dr Chen Su Lan (1885 - 1972), was a doctor, anti-opium campaigner & devout Methodist who set up the Chen Su Lan Trust for charitable purposes in 1947. One of the charities he wanted to establish was a children’s home for orphans and children of various races and religions who were World War II victims and living in poverty. At the same time, members of the Wesley Methodist Church wanted to set up an outreach programme to help needy & disadvantaged children.
A woman’s decision to have children is entirely her own. If she chooses not to, that choice is valid. If she is unable to, there is no reason for shame. If she decides to, that is her choice. Societal pressure should not make anyone feel odd. Besides, there are children who lack parental care due to tragedies, abandonment, or unstable homes. Therefore, whether one decides to become a parent, or to help other children as a mentor or “part-time mum,” is a very personal choice. Every bits shows them you care.
