The Plum Blossom has been depicted and delineated on since the Song Dynasty. It belongs to a recurring motif in Chinese art and literature known as the “Four Gentlemen,” in which a titular flower or plant represents a season out of the year. The flower represents its season perfectly in that it is known to bloom brilliantly in the harshest and most unforgiving of conditions.
